There are several other valve train arrangements. The most popular arrangement for many years uses a pushrod. For this reason, the engine is often called a pushrod engine. The arrangement has the camshaft in the cylinder block. Each part is described below.
- The valve lifter is around cylinder that rides on the cam.The cam rotates under it.
- The pushrod is a long rod that goes from the valve lifter up to one end of rocker arm.
- The rocker arm is pivoted at about its middle. The push rod pushes aganist one end of the rocker arm.The other end of the rocker armrests on the valve stem.
- The valve spring a coil spring that fits between the cylinder head and a retainer on the stem end of the valve.
